• What is a 2D code?
A 2-dimensional bar code that stores information, like an address or URL. 2D codes can be read by camera phones that are equipped with bar code-reading software. 2D codes are often used to link to websites. Just scan the code with your phone camera and it takes you to a specific webpage.
• What is the Speed Stick® 2D code program?
Speed Stick is giving you the opportunity to create your own personal 2D code that can be read using a mobile phone that’s equipped with barcode-reading software.
• Phones can read barcodes?
Yes, they can. The camera on your phone can be used to scan a barcode, as long as the phone has the software to interpret it.
• Why would I want to read barcodes with my phone?
The barcodes can act as links to websites. Everyone prefers clicking on links on web pages to typing in the whole address of the following page- it's much less time-consuming. This is a similar idea. You just hold your phone camera up to the barcode, scan it and it takes you to a webpage.
• How do I know if my phone can read 2D codes?
To find out if your phone can read 2D codes, text SPEED to 87415. You need a web-enabled camera phone to download and use the barcode reader. Standard text message and data download rates apply. Check with your network carrier for details.
• How do I enable my phone to read barcodes?
If you have a Nokia N95, N93, N93i or E90, your phone already reads barcodes. If you have a different phone, you can download readers from a large number of different companies. Or download one straight to your phone from the Speed Stick 2D code mobile site: mss.augme.com.
• What can I link to using my Speed Stick® 2D Codes?
Anything, really. The obvious choice is a webpage, like your own personal page on a favorite social networking site. Currently, you can link your Speed Stick code to any of the following sites: Bebo, BrightKite, Facebook, Flickr, Friendster, Hi5, LinkedIn, MySpace, Orkut, Twitter, and YouTube.
• I have created my own Speed Stick® 2D Code. Now what?
When you registered and created your code on a computer, a .pdf automatically downloaded to your desktop. This is an image of your code. Email it to friends and family. Print it out and put it anywhere and everywhere – t-shirts, business cards, stickers, posters. Let the world find you.
• I’ve put my Speed Stick® 2D Code in some pretty cool places. How can I tell you about it?
Share your code sightings with Speed Stick here. Better yet, snap some photos and show us.
• Can I create more than one Speed Stick® 2D Code?
Yes, after you register, you can create more than one code.
• My reader won't read the Speed Stick® 2D codes I have created.
With some readers such as the Nokia and Kaywa barcode readers, you have to turn the phone horizontal to get it to read a barcode. With other readers, you should hold the phone vertically.
Also, be sure to leave a small blank border around your code, so if you have printed the code onto something, make sure there is a small border. The border doesn't have to be white. If you have printed the transparent code onto a light blue background, for example, keep the border light blue, as well. There should be a good contrast between your code and the background, either way.
• Can I change the destination page of my Speed Stick® 2D Code?
Yes, you can do this easily from the 'Create Your Code' page. You must be logged-in to do so. There's no limit to the number of times you can change the destination of your 2D code, and you can do it as often as you like.
